Finland has celebrated the Day of the Elderly since 1954. The Day of the Elderly falls on the first Sunday in October and is followed by the Week of the Elderly. The Week always has a topical theme which is made public by a poster and inspirational material. Parties and events highlighting topical issues related to elderly people are held around the country during the Week.
